Privately owned weapons require proper registration and storage Published July 23, 2010 By Tech. Sgt. Melanie Veilleux 66th Security Forces Squadron HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Individuals residing on base in dormitories, visiting officers' quarters (VOQ), visiting airmen quarters (VAQ), and temporary lodging facility (TLF) are not authorized to store weapons or munitions. They are required to register and store privately owned weapons in the 66th Security Forces Squadron armory in Building 1725, immediately after bringing them on base. Weapons may be temporarily checked out but they must be returned to the armory for storage on the date specified. Personnel living in base housing may retain their privately owned weapons in their quarters but are required to register all weapons through their unit orderly room within five days of occupying government quarters. The orderly room will forward a copy of the registration to security forces within 72 hours. Housing occupants without a unit orderly room on base must register their weapons with the Law Enforcement Desk in building 1725. Personnel possessing or intending to possess privately owned weapons must be knowledgeable of and in compliance with Massachusetts law. Personnel assigned to or living on Hanscom Air Force Base with a permanent address outside the Commonwealth of Massachusetts who do not have a license from another state must obtain a non-resident card to purchase, possess or carry weapons off the installation.
