Hanscom Inn offers convenient, affordable lodging Published June 3, 2010 By J.C. Corcoran 66th Air Base Wing Public Affairs HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- During the upcoming summer months, many Americans will be "hitting the road" to visit family and friends in a variety of locations, including New England and Hanscom Air Force Base. While some will forgo summer travel due to the current state of the economy, others will continue to vacation, provided they can obtain affordable accommodations in locations convenient to tourist attractions. For Department of Defense card holders who are traveling to or accommodating guests in the area surrounding Hanscom, the Hanscom Inn is an advantageous lodging option. With a total room capacity of 168, which includes both family and single room options, the Hanscom Inn offers comfort and security in a location accessible to major tourist routes in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and other New England destinations. Single rooms feature a queen sized bed, microwave, refrigerator and private bath. Recently renovated temporary lodging facility family units include a kitchen, pots and pans, dishes and utensils for those who prefer eating in to dining out. Rooms designed for individuals with special needs are also available. All DoD card holders are eligible to sponsor guests at Hanscom's lodging facilities. Rooms can generally be booked for three days at a time, except during the off-season, which lasts from Nov. 1 to Feb. 1 of each year. During that time, reservations for more than three days is often permitted. Advance reservation availability is based on the occupancy rate at the time the call is placed. If the occupancy rate is 50 percent or less at the time of the call, reservations can be made 120 days in advance. Occupancy rates of 66 to 80 percent mean reservations can be made 14 days in advance. Occupancy of 86 percent or greater means reservations can be made 3 days in advance. Once a reservation confirmation number is received, lodging guests are guaranteed their room for up to three days. Reservations for families or friends must be made by the I.D. card holder who must also be present at the time of guest check in.
