The 101 Critical Days of Summer begins in just over a month and it's time to start thinking about safety. But this year, the Hanscom Safety Office wants people to do a little more than just think about it. They want everyone to creatively express what safety means to them. For those who decide to take this challenge, a reward may be in store.

Now through May 31, the safety office is sponsoring a coloring contest and a poster contest for children. A safety video contest will also run until June 15.

Children, ages 5 through 8, may use markers, crayons on colored pencils to decorate a poster which is available to download on the Hanscom public Web site or picked up at the safety office.

Children, ages 9 through 14, may design their own poster using the theme "What Does Safety Mean to You." Topics can include bike, swim or sun safety, or any other safety aspect to be aware of during the summer months. Entries must include the child's name and phone number on the back of the poster.

The top three winners in each category will receive a prize.

Finally, anyone looking to express their inner "Hollywood" may enter the Hanscom Safety Video contest. Participants may pick any summer safety topic, such as motorcycle, ATV, camping and boating safety. The video should be two to three minutes in length and there is no limit on the number of submissions.

The top three videos will be awarded prizes and used throughout the summer to promote safety.

All entries should be delivered to the Hanscom Safety Office at 3 Robbins St., Building 1721. For further information or questions, please contact the safety office at (781) 377-5135.
