Workforce Development Week to feature more than 50 courses Published March 2, 2010 By Kevin Gilmartin 66th Air Base Wing Public Affairs HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Military members and civilian employees will have an opportunity to choose from among more than 50 training events during Electronic Systems Center's Workforce Development Week March 29 to April 9. "This is a great opportunity to hear and learn about what is new in the acquisition world, learn to use unique government software, take care of your personnel records, or get valuable information about program management, engineering, contracting or financial management," said Joe Solivan, acquisition support consultant in ESC's directorate of Acquisition Excellence. People can take advantage of many new training opportunities during the week, including "Case Studies in Ethical Failures," "Tech Management Control," "Weapon System Safety is No Accident-Intro to System Safety," and "Fraud Awareness for Acquisition Personnel." There will also be two of Microsoft Project Scheduling Instructions and Basic CCAR for program managers at the computer room at the Education and Training Center. Kate Altieri of "Organizing Boston," which has been featured in the Boston Globe, Boston Magazine, WBZ-TV, FOX News, and Business New Radio will be presenting ideas for getting organized at the Airmen and Family Readiness Center. Some of the old Workforce Development Week favorites are also returning, including "Earned Value Management 101," "Weapon System Acquisition Reform Act," and "Your Career-Your Personnel Records-Your Responsibility, How to Succeed at WMS Exercises," and many other training events. People can view the entire list of courses and registration on ESC's CenterNet. All courses are open to ESC employees, military and civilian; however, some are aimed at specific, targeted audiences which may restrict attendance. Classes will be held at both the base Conference Center in Bldg. 1106 and at the Education and Training Center, Bldg. 1728. Mr. Solivan advises people to make note of the location of their classes. Registration will require using the ACQ NOW portal. People who have already taken Defense Acquisition University or Air Force Institute of Technology classes should have an ACQ NOW account. Those who do not already have an account will need to create one before registering. Participants in Workforce Development Week classes will earn continuous learning points. ESC University will automatically transfer continuous learning points into the ACQ NOW CLP tracker immediately after a class.
