"Park Right" program offers rewards Published Feb. 9, 2010 By J.C. Corcoran 66th Air Base Wing Public Affairs HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The Fitness and Sports Center has rolled out a new program that will offer benefits to patrons and, at the same time, help cut down on parking issues and traffic congestion in front of Hanscom's bowling center. "Park Right" is open to all patrons of the Fitness and Sports center and features the chance to win weekly prizes for those who participate. Additionally, once each month a special drawing will be held for major prizes like a free massage session, a personal training session, T-shirts and fitness gear, according to Jerry Turnbow, fitness center manager. "The program is geared to start getting fitness center patrons to use the parking area located directly behind building 1530, where Outdoor Recreation is located," Mr. Turnbow said. "This area provides easy access to our facility and is less congested, which means you're less likely to receive that ding in your car door, which can really put a damper on your day," he said. Fitness center patrons are strongly encouraged to join in the program and can get additional details at the customer service counter at the fitness center. "Our goal is to try and get all of our patrons to utilize the parking area behind building 1530, especially during the week and particularly around lunch time," Mr. Turnbow said. In his Feb. 5 Straight Talk article, Col. Dave Orr, 66th Air Base Wing commander, again addressed the issue of parking, particularly in the area of the bowling center. "That parking lot behind the Shopette is the hub of vehicle movement on Hanscom...I worry most about the safety aspects of a congested area and personnel not paying attention," said Colonel Orr. "If we can get even 50 percent of the fitness center patrons to park in the Outdoor Recreation parking area, I think you'll find more parking slots available, reduced minor accidents and a safer Hanscom," he said.
