Melanie Veilleux 66th Security Forces Squadron HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Many people dread the winter months, but planning for snow removal is a New England necessity, and the time has come. On-street parking is not allowed during snow removal operations. Before an expectant snow or ice storm, signs will be placed at the entrance to the housing areas. Once the signs are in place it is the residents' responsibility to move their vehicles from the streets. Vehicles parked on the street are a hindrance to snow removal operations; they prevent proper snow clearing and increase hazards for snow removal equipment and its operators. Vehicles that impede snow and ice removal operations are subject to towing. The 66th Security Forces Squadron will be contacted and are authorized to issue a citation and tow the vehicle at the owner's expense. If housing residents are unable to use their garages or driveways, they may park vehicles in the long term parking lot behind building 1607. The following procedures will apply for the purpose of TDY, deployment, leave, temporary travel outside of the local area and snow removal: - Personnel are directed to report to the 66 SFS Law Enforcement Desk with valid registration and proof of insurance. The individual must have a name and phone number of someone in the local area who has access to Hanscom Air Force Base as an emergency point of contact for the vehicle. - Personnel will be given a long term parking application to complete. The on-duty desk sergeant will ensure all information is legible and verify the registration and proof of insurance. - Vehicle owners will be instructed to park their vehicle in the long term parking lot and will be issued a long term parking pass with an assigned parking space number. Recreational vehicles, utility trailers, boats, campers, pickup toppers, and jet skis are prohibited in family housing areas unless the vehicle fits into the garage with the garage door completely closed. If recreational vehicles are located in housing, security forces will be contacted. Security forces personnel are authorized to issue a citation and tow the recreational vehicle at the owner's expense. Recreational vehicles may be brought into the housing area short term, not to exceed 24 hours, for loading and unloading. Hancom's Outdoor Recreation Office operates a recreational vehicle storage area that military members may use. Security forces advises all vehicle owners to ensure their vehicle is secured properly and to contact the Law Enforcement Desk immediately upon their return.
