The Hanscom Commuter Management Office is on a mission -- armed with an arsenal of new marketing tools, the office is working to ensure that commuters, whether new to the base or seasoned veterans, are informed about the many commuting options and programs available to help save time, money and the environment.

"Commuting is a major investment of time and money for employees each day," said Donald Morris, Environmental Management Office, director. "We all have to get to work but how we do that is what we want employees to consider."

Among the tools the Commuter Management Office will be utilizing to get the word out to Hanscom employees are posters and brochures, in addition to the Commuter eBoard Web site. The Commuter eBoard Web site can be found on the Centernet under the quick links section. The Web site offers information on all of the programs available to Hanscom commuters.

One such program employees can gather information on is the Transportation Incentive Program.

The Transportation Incentive Program is open to military members and DoD Federal employees, including non appropriated fund employees.

"The program provides financial incentives to encourage commuting by public transportation and qualified van pools," Mr. Morris said.

"Employees enrolled in the program can receive up to $230.00 per month in transportation vouchers that are distributed on a quarterly basis. Public transportation costs such as bus, train, subway, shuttle service and van pool fees qualify for the program," he said.

Hanscom employees interested in public transportation or carpooling have several programs available to them. The Ride Matching program, which is run by the Environmental office, pairs employees with similar work schedules to facilitate carpooling. Vanpools are also available for larger commuter groups.

Commuters from the Nashua, New Hampshire area can utilize TransAction Corporate Shuttles daily service to the base.

The cost of the daily shuttle service is $200 per month, which translates to a free ride for employees eligible for the TIP reimbursement amount.

The shuttle service is open to all Hanscom employees.

To help get the word out to employees, the Commuter Management Office will soon have available on the Commuter eBoard Web site a new brochure that outlines all of the programs available to commuters. Mr. Morris encourages supervisors to electronically distribute the brochure to their employees. For more information contact the Commuter Management Office at 781-377-2904.
