Hanscom Lodging a smart travel alternative Published June 8, 2009 By J.C. Corcoran 66th Air Base Wing Public Affairs HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The summer vacation period is just around the corner and with it comes the inevitable migration of families, relatives, and friends who will be packing up to "hit the road" with travel plans to a variety of locations. While many Americans will forgo summer travel because of current economics, many others will continue to plan vacations to New England, provided they can obtain affordable accommodations in locations convenient to local tourist attractions. Department of Defense card holders desiring to provide comfortable accommodations for guests should consider Hanscom's lodging facilities as an advantageous option. With a total room capacity of 168, which includes both family and single room options, Base Lodging offers security and comfort in a central location with access to major tourist routes to New Hampshire and points north or south. All DoD card holders are eligible to sponsor guests at Hanscom's lodging facilities. Rooms generally can be booked for three days at a time, except during the slow season, which lasts from Nov. 1 to Feb. 1 each year. During that time, booking for more than three days is often permitted. Advance reservation availability is based on the occupancy rate at the time the call is placed. If the occupancy rate is 50 percent or less at the time of the call, reservations can be made 120 days in advance. Occupancy rates of 66 to 80 percent mean reservations can be made 14 days in advance. Occupancy of 86 percent or greater means a reservation can be made 3 days in advance. Once a reservation confirmation number is received, lodging guests are guaranteed their room for three days. Reservations for families or friends must be made by the I.D. card holder who must also be present at time of check in. Reservations can be made by e-mailing Hanscom.Inn@hanscom.af.mil or by calling (781) 377-2112, extension 0. Single rooms feature a queen sized bed, microwave, refrigerator and private bath. Temporary Lodging Facility family units include a kitchen, pots and pans, dishes and utensils for. Rooms designed for individuals with special needs are also available. The welcome sign is always on, said Ken Sylvia, 66th Services Squadron Lodging manager. "For a unique and comfortable experience, come and stay at the Hanscom Inn.
