Major improvements to base infrastructure set to begin June 22 Published June 8, 2009 By Rhonda Siciliano 66th Air Base Wing Public Affairs HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Hanscom is about to undergo the largest infrastructure improvement projects that the base has seen in 25 years. Work will consist of critical paving, roofing and steam and condensate line improvement projects. Paving projects scheduled to begin June 22 include the repair of the parking lot for Building 1642 and the construction of a parking area for Building 1851, the Emergency Readiness Training building near Camp Patriot. Roofing projects scheduled to begin June 22 will include repairs to the Aero Club facility, Building 1722; and repairs to the roof of the Electronic Systems Center Legal Office housed in Building 1436. Improvement work on the base's steam and condensate lines will begin on June 22 at the following locations: Grenier Street, between Building 1515 and also around Building 1511; on Chennault Street near Building 1726; and on Kirtland Street from Building 1218 across Barksdale Street towards Building 1240. Detailed maps and schedules, by area, for each of paving, roofing and steam and condensate projects are available to base personnel on the Base X drive/Stimulus Project Maps. There is a folder for each project's schedule by area and a folder with a Base map identifying each project area. "While the above projects will cause some minor inconvenience to base personnel, the improvements will result in greater functionality, much needed infrastructure repair, improved reliability of services and improved base appearance," said Chris Perkins, Base civil engineer. "We will keep personnel informed through weekly updates on the progress of this large undertaking, including the status of the work in progress as well as projected start dates for upcoming projects. Our goal is to minimize the impact this work will have on personnel by providing them the information they will need to plan accordingly to avoid on-going construction activities." Projects are scheduled to being June 22, with the last project scheduled to be completed in late November. "Several areas of the Base will be simultaneously under construction, we ask each individual to proceed with caution in work areas," Mr. Perkins said.
