Let the games begin, the Hanscom Olympic games that is. The 66th Services Squadron is finalizing plans for the first Hanscom Olympics that will take place May 11 to 21, from 3 to 5 p.m. each day.

The Olympics will kick off with an opening ceremony on May 11, that will include the opening declaration followed by a formation run and a Eagles versus Top 3 sporting event. The games will close on May 21, with a morning kickball competition, followed by an awards ceremony at noon and a base picnic to immediately follow.

Hanscom's Olympic games will feature competition between the base's five wings, Air Force Research Laboratory, Electronic Systems Center staff and joint service personnel from the Army, Navy, Marines and Coast Guard.

For Hanscom's five wings, AFRL and ESC Staff, the competition will also be an opportunity to rack up some points in certain events towards the Commander's Cup.

Olympic events will include competition in a 5K Run; bowling; dodge ball; frisbee football; kickball; racquetball; tennis; track and swim sprints; and tug of war. Events that will earn both Olympic points and Commanders Cup competition points include basketball; obstacle course; softball; track and swim relays; and volleyball.

Each organization will designate an Olympic Coach point of contact who will take responsibility for forming their organization's Olympic team. Teams for each event must include active duty, civilians, males and females. Coaches will have instructions for signing up their teams and the rules of engagement for each sport.

Team registrations are due by April 29. Additional information and a list of Wing POCs will be printed in future issues of the Hansconian.
