Single military members interested in living in Hanscom's privatized homes and saving money can now enjoy the benefits of both with a new option available to them.
The Landings at Hanscom is now offering qualified single military members the option of living in housing with a roommate.

"We believe this will be a real benefit to our community, it allows our military members to enjoy the conveniences of living on base with the added benefit of saving money by sharing the cost of rent," said Kelley Casey, The Landings at Hanscom community director.

The rental rate would be based on the highest ranking member's accompanied Basic Allowance for Housing rate for the home to be rented.

Each unaccompanied member will sign a lease for the portion of rent they are responsible for.

"The same lease terms and policies will apply for multiple unaccompanied personnel living within the community as is required by the accompanied personnel," Ms. Casey said.

If one of the roommates chooses to vacate the home, the remaining roommate will have 30 days to utilize one of three options.

- The remaining roommate can choose to continue renting the home in which case a new lease would be executed with the proper rent amount due, the original lease expiration date would be retained.

- The remaining roommate may choose to obtain a new roommate. The Landings at Hanscom staff will execute a new lease showing the proper rent amount due and will coordinate the expiration date of the lease to be the same as the original leaseholders.

- The remaining roommate can also give a 30-day notice to vacate the property. If the original vacating resident's move was military related then all members may leave without penalty with the 30-day notice. If the original vacating resident's move was not military related then the original vacating resident will be held responsible for the lease break fees in the lease and the remaining vacating residents will not be penalized.

"Our goal is to provide superior service to all our military members and through this initiative we look forward to providing our unaccompanied personnel a home environment that meets their needs," Ms. Casey said. "We are committed to making our housing community a place where all of our military personnel and their families want to live with quality homes and service."
