Hanscom’s gears up for Military Saves campaign Published Feb. 9, 2009 By Rhonda Siciliano 66th Air Base Wing Public Affairs HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Hanscom's Military Saves campaign will take place from Feb. 23 -27. The campaign is an annual Air Force-wide savings and debt reduction program sponsored by the Department of Defense in conjunction with the Consumer Federation of America. "Military Saves promotes financial planning and incorporating sound financial strategies everyday," said Fran Cusick, Airman and Family Readiness Center, Community Readiness consultant. Program partners include the Hanscom Federal Credit Union and Airman and Family Readiness Center. "When any member of the Hanscom community is distracted by financial problems, the mission, military and family readiness may be negatively affected," Ms. Cusick said. Active duty military, family members, DoD civilian and Non Appropriated Fund employees and contractors are all part of the Military Saves community. "At home and at work, this program can help individuals set realistic goals, build savings, and work to stay out of debt," she said. The Airman and Family Readiness Center will host a number of events to commemorate Military Saves Week. All of the events listed below will take place in Building 1218. Anyone interested in attending the classes, seminars are asked to register by calling (781) 377-4222. Registration is not required for the Financial Fair. - Feb. 24, Junior Officers Financial Class will take place from 2 to 4:30 p.m. - Feb. 25, Homebuying Seminar will take place from 1:30 to 3 p.m. - Feb. 26, Purchasing a Car seminar will take place from 1:30 to 3 p.m. - Feb. 27, Financial Fair. The A&FRC is partnering with the Hanscom Federal Credit Union for a Financial Fair that will feature information on establishing savings, SGLI Family Life Insurance, developing spending plans and other key financial information. The HFCU in conjunction with the Youth Center will have financial booth for children featuring games and prizes. HFCU will also offer a 5 percent Annual Percentage Yield Certificate of Deposit for the Fair. Refreshments will be served and attendees will have an opportunity to enter to win prizes.
