Time to turn in CFC donations, campaign wraps up Nov. 14 Published Oct. 30, 2008 By Rhonda Siciliano 66th Air Base Wing Public Affairs HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Hanscom's Combined Federal Campaign is winding down. With a little over a week to go key workers will be out making their final push towards helping the base reach its goal of raising $237,000 for this year's drive. As of Oct. 27, Hanscom has raised $189,479 for the CFC. "It's crunch time," said Capt. Kate Stowe, Hanscom CFC representative. "We are asking everyone who hasn't yet made a contribution to please take the time to do so. It's really a great opportunity to make a difference." Each Hanscom wing has been sponsoring CFC events in a spirited competition to see which can do the most to help meet Hanscom's goal. To date, the 554th Electronic Systems Wing is in the lead, raising 151 percent of their goal with a total of $12,240. The Air Force Research Laboratory has raised the highest total amount for charity so far with $38,562, 112 percent of their goal. "In giving to others we enrich ourselves," Captain Stowe said. "By supporting the CFC you not only help the charitable agencies complete their mission but you strengthen our community by insuring that there is a safety net in place ready and available to assist anyone in need." There are approximately 2,500 charities included in the CFC that people can choose to donate to. "The choices are wide and diverse," Captain Stowe said. "There are local and international charities or charities that represent environmental and health issues or organizations dealing with children and family problems or groups that specialize in helping veterans or agencies that protect animals. Whatever your passion you can find a deserving charity in the CFC." The CFC provides two methods for employees to participate in the campaign. The first is a one- time contribution. The second method is to contribute through the payroll deduction system. This allows the employee to select a dollar amount to be taken out of their paycheck every pay period. "Designating an allotment through the payroll system is an easy way to contribute," Captain Stowe said. "Your donation is automatically deducted from your paycheck and you can support your charity throughout the year." By contributing using the payroll deduction system, employees have a tracking system when it comes time to prepare their taxes. "By choosing to donate through payroll deduction you help the charities too," Captain Stowe said. "They receive a quarterly allotment from the campaign throughout the year and they can budget and use their funds more efficiently because they know that they will be receiving a guaranteed income."
