The base 911 system is used to support the Hanscom community in the event emergency services are needed. The 911 system should be used to report fires, medical emergencies and to report crimes.

To call 911 from a non government phone such as from base housing, pay phones or cell phones dial 911.

From government phones dial 9-911.

If you misdial 911 for any reason, stay on the line. Identify yourself and your location, and tell the dispatcher that there is no emergency to report. Security Forces will still respond to confirm that there is no emergency.

"We want to be sure that there is in fact no emergency since it is not unusual for criminals to give false information to 911 dispatchers with the hope that police will not respond," said Maj. Tamara Mayer, 66th Security Forces Squadron commander.

"By staying on the line and telling the dispatcher that you simply misdialed assists security forces in knowing what they may be encountering upon their arrival and who to make contact with when they do arrive," she said. "In the event you do hang-up, the dispatcher will attempt to redial the number to determine if there is an emergency."

If no contact can be made security forces will immediately respond to determine if an emergency exists.

"We will make all reasonable attempts to determine who called 911 and if an emergency exists," Major Mayer said. "911 should only be used to report a fire, save a life, and report crimes."
