Hanscom Public Affairs officers win top command honors Published Feb. 13, 2008 By Meredith March 66th Air Base Wing HANSCOM AFB, Mass. -- Hanscom's Public Affairs officers were recently honored with 2007 Air Force Materiel Command Public Affairs Achievement Awards. Outstanding New Print Journalist of the Year Second Lt. C. Michaela Walrond, 66th Air Base Wing Public Affairs Web Operations chief, was named AFMC's Outstanding New Print Journalist of the Year for 2007. Lieutenant Walrond demonstrated her commitment to telling the Air Force and Hanscom stories to both the base community and the public by writing high-quality articles across the print journalism spectrum for the Hansconian and the 66 ABW's public Web site. During 2007, Lieutenant Walrond had four articles published on AFMC News Service, and two published on the Air Force News Web site. Outstanding Print Journalist of the Year First Lt. Lisa Spilinek, 66 ABW Public Affairs Internal Information chief, was selected as AFMC Print Journalist of the Year for 2007. In 2007, Lieutenant Spilinek wrote more than 100 articles, including news stories, commentaries and sports stories, for publication in the Hansconian and on the 66 ABW public Web site. Five articles were subsequently published on AFMC News Service, and two of the lieutenant's articles were also published on AF News. One of Lieutenant Spilinek's commentaries, "Starry visions: the power of VPP," won the Best Commentary of the Year award. Lieutenant Spilinek's "Runners conquer Boston Marathon," was selected as the runner-up for the Best Sports Story of the Year award. "This is great recognition for the outstanding contributions that Lieutenants Spilinek and Walrond make by telling the Hanscom and Air Force story," said Col. Tom Schluckebier, 66 ABW commander.
