Military Saves campaign encourages participants to build wealth, not debt Published Feb. 11, 2008 By Terri O'Keefe Airman and Family Readiness Center HANSCOM AFB, Mass. -- Hanscom's Military Saves campaign will take place from Feb. 24 to March 2. The campaign is an annual Air Force-wide savings and debt reduction program sponsored by the Department of Defense in conjunction with the Consumer Federation of America. "Military Saves promotes financial planning and incorporating sound financial strategies everyday," said Fran Cusick, Airman and Family Readiness Center, Community Readiness consultant. Program partners include the Hanscom Federal Credit Union and Airman and Family Readiness Center. "When any member of the Hanscom community is distracted by financial problems, the mission, military and family readiness may be negatively affected," Ms. Cusick said. Active duty military, family members, DoD civilian and Non Appropriated Fund employees and contractors are all part of the Military Saves community. "At home and at work, this program can help individuals set realistic goals, build savings, and work to stay out of debt," she said. Hanscom will host three Military Saves events and Hanscom community members are invited to attend one. At each event, participants will receive an orientation to the campaign and learn how to sign-up and begin establishing personal goals to increase savings or pay down debt. All attendees will receive a special gift from the HFCU, and during each session one lucky attendee will win a financial prize. All three events will be take place in the training room at the Hanscom Federal Credit Union here on base. Event times are: Feb. 25 from 8 to 9:30 a.m.; Feb. 26 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and Feb. 27 from 10 to11:30 a.m. Additional information is available online at www.militarysaves.org.
