Heroes’ Homecoming designated alternate duty location Published Nov. 29, 2007 By 1st Lt. Lisa Spilinek 66th Air Base Wing Public Affairs HANSCOM AFB, Mass. -- Get ready to clap and cheer. The heroes of Hanscom will be officially welcomed home during a ceremony in the Aero Club Hangar Dec. 5. The event, which will begin at noon and is open to the entire base populace, will recognize the deployed contributions of Airmen assigned to Hanscom who have returned from the Area of Responsibility since the last Heroes' Homecoming celebration in June. To allow as many people as possible to join in the celebration, the Heroes' Homecoming has been declared an alternate duty location. "The holiday season is known as a time of family bonding and it's important that this celebration of togetherness is extended to our Air Force family as well. It's appropriate that we take the time to say 'thanks for what you did' and 'welcome home' to our warriors and Wingmen," said Col. Tom Schluckebier, 66th Air Base Wing commander. Highlights of the Heroes' Homecoming will include autograph sessions with Boston Bruins alumni Bob Sweeney and Lyndon Byers and an appearance by members of the New England Patriots Cheerleading Squad. Musical entertainment will be provided by the Air Force Band of Liberty rock ensemble Afterburner. Since the homecoming event will take place over the lunch hour, free pizza and submarine sandwiches will be available to those in attendance -- both deployers and attendees. "This is going to be a great event. I encourage you to bring your family or come with your co-workers to celebrate our Hanscom heroes," the colonel said.
