Do you have a family member or friend currently enrolled at least half-time in a local college or university who might be they interested in part-time employment to help with expenses?

Do they want to begin a career, develop résumé enhancing skills and experiences while still in college, and do work that makes a difference in the lives of others? If the answer to these questions is yes, Electronic Systems Center's Directorate of Personnel might have a way to make that happen through the newly revitalized ESC Student Career Experience Program.

The Office of Personnel Management recently concluded a comprehensive study of the ESC workforce and its future workforce challenges. Not surprisingly, the study recommended ESC increase the use of programs designed to attract and recruit college students. Teams of functional experts met throughout the spring and summer and reviewed the processes in place to recruit, train, mentor, and supervise those who fall in a trainee category.

"Although still a work in progress, we are now ready to target, recruit and bring on a new wave of college students by actively seeking juniors and seniors from local schools," said Sheila Brennan, ESC Director of Personnel.

Many positions are available in our key mission critical occupations of Program Management, Financial Management, Contracting, Information and Technology, Engineering and Acquisition Logistics.

"This is a great opportunity for us to become strategic in our succession planning development efforts and what better way than to get college students with the skills and competencies we know we need for the future?" said Ms. Brennan.

"By maximizing the impressive features available to us in SCEP, we will be able to recruit college juniors and seniors with the real possibility of full time placement once they receive their college degrees. Once on board, they begin a three-year developmental training phase with annual promotions for successful and solid performance. The on-boarding of new trainees, their competency training, and mentoring processes will receive oversight by the ESC Human Capital Board of Directors. All in all, this is a 'win-win' situation for the trainee and for the center."
