Hanscom people will once again have an opportunity to help those less fortunate through the Combined Federal Campaign, the federal government's sole annual charity drive, which began last week and will run through Nov. 16.

This year's CFC drive at Hanscom, with a theme of "Help Our World Forward," has a goal of raising $220,000. During the campaign, people have the opportunity to choose from hundreds of local, national and international charities, and can make a donation in cash or through payroll deduction.

"CFC is a great opportunity to effortlessly provide donations to over 2,000 local, national and international charitable organizations," said Electronic Systems Center Commander Lt. Gen. Chuck Johnson in an email to all Hanscom employees. "Even small donations add up quickly and help tremendously. I urge all federal employees to make a difference by helping exceed our goal this year."

"Our goal this year is to raise at least $220,000 and, as always, to make 100 percent contact with every military member and government civilian assigned to Hanscom," said Capt. Andrew Dorn, CFC Representative for Hanscom.

Opportunities to donate to Hanscom's campaign will be plentiful; volunteers from each of the wings will facilitate employee giving by making the rounds to answer employee questions and distribute contribution forms, in addition to numerous fundraising activities that will be held by individual wings and units.

President John F. Kennedy established the CFC in 1961 with the goal of improving and controlling the fundraising process within the federal government. "To say the least, the idea turned out to be a tremendous success; the CFC lives on today as the largest and most successful model in the world," Captain Dorn said.
