Shiely, Wright, O’Neill Awards Banquet set for Nov. 1 Published Oct. 1, 2007 By 1st Lt. Brenda Hutton 551st Electronic Systems Wing HANSCOM AFB, Mass. -- Electronic Systems Center will recognize its very best people and programs Nov. 1 at the 33rd annual Shiely, Wright and O'Neill awards banquet at the Minuteman Club. The Maj. Gen. Albert R. Shiely Jr. Award recognizes Excellence in Acquisition Management in two categories: major and minor programs. The award is named in recognition of General Shiely, who, during his 31-year military career, served the Electronic Systems Division in at least six different positions, including commander. He donated the original trophy upon retiring from the Air Force in 1974. The Lt. Gen. John W. O'Neill Award is given once a year to two military officers within ESC, and recognizes those officers who made outstanding contributions to the Electronic Systems Center mission. The namesake for this trophy, Lt. Gen. John W. O'Neill, served as ESC commander from July 1964 to July 1967. The award is presented in two categories: lieutenant colonel and above and major and below. Nominees for the award must have performed above and beyond their task requirements and displayed outstanding qualities within their organization, including integrity and leadership. The Harold M. Wright Award is given once a year to two civilians within ESC, and recognizes those civilians who made outstanding contributions to the Electronic Systems Center mission. Mr. Wright, the namesake for this trophy, was a dedicated civil service employee who devoted more than 30 years of his life to the United States government. He held various positions throughout his tenure, and served as senior technical director for Electronic Systems Division from 1969 until his retirement in 1973. The awards are presented in two categories: GS-13 and below, or the NSPS pay band equivalent, and GS-14 and above or the NSPS pay band equivalent. Winners of these awards will be announced at the banquet. The event will begin with a social hour at 6 p.m., with dinner and award presentations to follow.
