After the excitement and busyness of the Operational Readiness Inspection subsides, Hanscom personnel will have the opportunity to celebrate their hard work and enjoy each other's company during a fun-filled afternoon packed with events. June 22 may begin like any other Friday, but by 3 p.m. festivities will begin in Memorial Park behind the Base Clinic.

To ensure the entire base can participate in the celebration, Electronic Systems Center Commander Lt. Gen. Chuck Johnson has declared the park an alternate duty location during the afternoon.

"The fun will begin with a Heroes' Homecoming celebration to recognize Hanscom military members who have returned from deployment during the past six months," said Carolyn McCafferty, 66th Services Squadron.

More than 80 returned deployers are expected to be recognized. Michael Graham, radio talk show host on WTKK 96.9 FM radio, will once again act as the Master of Ceremonies for the homecoming as he did for the inaugural Heroes' Homecoming in January.

Following the homecoming event, the party will continue during Summer Bash 2007, hosted by the 66 SVS. Summer Bash 2007 events will feature free rides for the children, an outdoor concert by the Air Force Band of Liberty's Afterburner and the Liberty Big Band ensembles, as well as a variety of demonstrations featuring karate and yo-yo demonstrations.

Food vendors will be stationed around the park to sell refreshments.

The good times and camaraderie won't stop just because the sun sets either. "Everyone is encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and blankets, because the day will be capped off at 9:30 p.m. with an extravagant fireworks display," Ms. McCafferty said.

Parents whose children are enrolled at the Child Development Center should note that the CDC will close early and the road leading to the CDC will close to incoming traffic at approximately 2:30 p.m. in preparation for the festivities.
