In an effort to put Hanscom's best foot forward during June's Operational Readiness Inspection, base leadership is encouraging all wings and their personnel to participate in a voluntary installation-wide clean-up event June 4 and 5.

Wings are encouraged to schedule time either on June 4 or 5 to clean up workspaces and internal common areas.

"Everybody says first impressions are the most lasting. When the Air Force Materiel Command Inspector General team sets foot on Hanscom, we want them to see it at its best," said Chris Perkins, 66th Mission Support Group, Base Civil engineer.  "This cleanup is an opportunity to foster pride in the Hanscom workplace and at the same time, make a good first impression. We always want to promote a work environment that is safe, professional, clean and aesthetically pleasing."

Del Jen, Inc. is responsible for cleaning outside common areas, but building managers are encouraged to consider doing some self-help work. The Self-Help Store will have bark mulch and other materials available for those who also wish to tidy up outside their buildings, Mr. Perkins said.

Additionally, personnel are reminded to ensure that all Operations Security and Privacy Act procedures are followed when disposing of materials. This includes shredding and the proper disposal of sensitive information.

Excess and unneeded office equipment should be placed in the dumpster. Personnel should be sure, however, to check with the organizational equipment custodian to ensure that the proper procedures are followed for all accountable items, Mr. Perkins said. Items that do not need to be turned in can be disposed of immediately.

If there is not enough space in the dumpster, with advance notice, civil engineering may be able to arrange for a one-time roll-off dumpster, call (781) 377-7341 to arrange for a dumpster or for more information.

Hazardous chemical turn-in information is located on the Electronic Systems Center's CenterNet under the CE Environmental Web site.

Cleaning Tips
 · Look at your general office area and spruce up both common areas and personnel desks. Offices are reminded to contact the base recycling manager at (781) 377-4272 to arrange for timely pickup of recycled paper materials. · Wash doors and windows; pick up trash outside of buildings.

· Turn in old and unused computers. Also, throw out junk laying around empty cubicles and corridors.

· Remove old, outdated information and any tape from windows and doors. · Clean dust from windows, desks and blinds.

 · Replace burned out light bulbs. If a new bulb doesn't light, the ballast may be damaged and should be reported to the Civil Engineering Help Desk at (781) 377-3383.

For excess supply equipment, have the organizational supply equipment custodian fax a turn-in request, Form 2005, to the 66 MSG/LRDS at (781) 377-1271.
