The 66th Security Forces Squadron will host National Night Out at Memorial Park here Aug. 29 from 3 to 8 p.m.

The event aims to build partnerships between 66 SFS, local police, and the community, fostering a sense of neighborhood camaraderie.

“National Night Out features a variety of activities designed to engage, educate, and entertain attendees,” said Staff Sgt. Raoul Montano, a 66 SFS National Night Out event co-organizer. “The event provides the community with an opportunity to meet and talk with local police officers in a relaxed, informal setting.”

The event is open to all with base access.

Traditionally held the first Tuesday in August, organizers decided to hold the event later in the month to accommodate local law enforcement partners who will join 66 SFS defenders.

Military law enforcement and local civilian agencies will demonstrate equipment during the event.

“Attendees will see displays from local law enforcement agencies ranging from SWAT and tactical vehicles, as well as other activities including a petting zoo, mobile laser tag, gaming truck, Nerf battle, cornhole, bounce houses and more,” said Staff Sgt. Matthew Mead, 66 SFS National Night Out event co-organizer.

According to Mead, the Aug. 29 event will have private organizations, including the 66 SFS Defenders Council, selling food and drinks.

“National Night Out is a powerful initiative that strengthens the bonds between communities and law enforcement, fostering a safer and more connected neighborhood,” Montano said. “By coming together for a night of celebration and interaction, residents and police build trust and collaboration, enhancing overall community safety and unity.”

According to the National Night Out website, the annual campaign was established in August of 1984, and the event grew to become a nationwide celebration, where neighborhoods would host block parties, parades, cookouts and other community events.
