HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – As some members of the workforce transition back to in-person work this month, base leaders are focused on ensuring a smooth and efficient return to the installation.

Base personnel who live within 50 miles of Hanscom AFB and are currently under recurring telework will return to in-person full-time on Thursday, Feb. 6.

“We recognize that after an extended period of remote work, some employees may feel uncertain about returning to the workplace,” said Col. Jorge Jimenez, installation commander. “Leaders across the installation are taking steps to prepare for the influx of people and will provide the guidance and support needed to help employees adjust successfully.”

The return of employees will increase the number of personnel commuting to Hanscom AFB, likely resulting in delays and traffic congestion at the gates during peak commute times. 66th Security Forces Squadron officials suggest employees allow extra time when arriving to the base in the morning.

“Our defenders are ready to assist with traffic flow to ensure a smooth entry process at the gates,” said Maj. Benjamin Doerfler, 66 SFS commander. “We ask for everyone’s patience as we adjust to the increased volume.”

Additionally, beginning Feb. 6, SFS personnel will offer common access card enrollment at building 1725.

“Starting Thursday, Security Forces will temporarily provide CAC enrollments and facility access for those returning to in-person work,” said Brandon Johnson, 66 SFS Plans and programs chief. “Our hours will be Monday and Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with Tuesdays remaining by appointment only.”

Johnson added that appointments can be scheduled though the SFS Virtual Visitor Center.

Employees are also encouraged to carpool when possible, and make use of public transportation and commuting options offered by the 66th Civil Engineering Division and 66th Logistics Readiness Squadron.

For additional guidance and resources, employees are encouraged to speak with their supervisors and visit the Hanscom AFB website for the latest updates.
