HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The 66th Force Support Squadron will host its annual Health and Fitness Fair May 7 from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Hanscom Fitness and Sports Center.
The event will focus on the four pillars of the Comprehensive Airmen Fitness model: spiritual, social, physical, and mental. The Air Force uses this model to promote comprehensive health across the force.
“Our goal is to increase overall well-being for folks, and aligning our process with the CAF model is a great way to do that,” said Kristin Wright, supervisory integrated prevention chief. “It’s all about how we can take care of ourselves and each other.”
More than 50 vendors, organizations, and experts will be in attendance, including chiropractors, massage therapists, insurance specialists, and representatives from the Bedford Veterans Administration Hospital.
The event will feature golf simulators, an Air Force Gaming station, and live demonstrations of Reiki, yoga, and CrossFit.
The base commander has designated the fair as an alternate duty location.
Officials scheduled the event to coincide with an early release of the Hanscom School. An obstacle course, a rock-climbing wall, yoga, face painting, and more will be available for children who are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Additionally, there will be food trucks and kiosks featuring Hanscom food vendors.
“Wellness pertains to a lot more than just physical fitness,” said Paul Shoesmith, director of the Hanscom Fitness and Sports Center. “What works for one person may not work for everyone, so we want to ensure that people are aware of the resources that are available to them and give them a variety of wellness strategies.”
The event is open to anyone with base access.
