The Department of the Air Force recently named the 66th Air Base Group Safety Office among its top safety performers, recognizing the team’s commitment to protecting members of the workforce through risk management, operational discipline, and a culture of safety across all mission areas.

The Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts, safety office received the Chief of Safety Outstanding Achievement Award Category III.

“Teamwork and effective communication are essential, not just within our safety team, but across every organization at Hanscom Air Force Base,” said Shaun Basett, 66th Air Base Group acting safety chief. “Building strong relationships with each work center is critical, and our team is committed to making time for those connections.”

He added that the team couldn’t have earned this level of recognition without the support of the entire base.

“Safety is a shared responsibility, and everyone plays a vital role in making it a priority in the workplace,” said Bassett.

The annual awards program acknowledges individuals, teams, and organizations for their exceptional contributions to safety culture, risk management, and accident prevention.

"The Air and Space Forces face increasingly complex challenges, and safety is more critical than ever," emphasized Maj. Gen. Sean Choquette, Chief of Safety for the Department of the Air Force. "This demands a fundamental shift in our approach to risk management. The actions of these awardees protected our most valuable asset – our people – and preserved our combat power for the future fight."
