HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Base and area residents are invited to attend Memorial Day events May 26.
Observed on the last Monday in May, Memorial Day is a day to honor and remember military members who died in service to the nation.
Remembrance events will be held locally May 26.
Bedford
- 8:45 a.m – Ceremony at Shawsheen Cemetery
- 9:15 a.m – Ceremony at Shawsheen River Bridge
- 10 a.m. – Ceremony at Old Burying Ground on Springs Road
- 10:45 a.m – Ceremony at Bedford High School Fallen Veterans Memorial
- 11 a.m. – Parade from Mudge Way, along Great Road and concluding with a ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park
Col. Jorge Jimenez, 66th Air Base Group commander, will provide keynote remarks at the park.
Concord
- 9 a.m. – Parade from Percy A. Rideout Field to Kenneth J. Dunn Square in West Concord for a remembrance ceremony
Capt. Christine Jestice, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center program manager, will provide remarks during the ceremony.
- 11 a.m. – Parade from Concord’s Main Street to Monument Square for a wreath laying and veterans roll call
Chief MSgt. Jason Vollmer, 66th Air Base Group command chief, will provide remarks during the ceremony.
The Concord Independent Battery, Concord Minutemen and Concord Police Honor Guard will participate in both events.
Lexington
- 10 a.m. – Memorial Walk from Munroe Cemetery to Emery Park at Depot Square
The public is invited to join the Lexington Minute Men, Lexington High School band, scouts and veterans and as they lay wreaths at several Lexington War memorials.
- 11 a.m. – Memorial Day Ceremony at Emery Park in Depot Square
Col. Michael Alexander, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center senior materiel leader, will provide greetings from Hanscom AFB.
Lincoln
- 9:45 a.m. – Veteran’s March along Weston Road to Pierce House
- 10 a.m. – Memorial Day ceremony at Pierce House including a wreath laying, playing of taps, call of veterans and a patriotic sing-along
Lt. Col. Joshua Shimko, 66th Air Base Group deputy commander, will provide keynote remarks.
A barbecue will be held after the ceremony.
A National Moment of Remembrance is observed for one minute at 3 p.m. each Memorial Day to honor and remember those who have died in service to the nation.
