HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- A temporary traffic shift and gate closure will take place beginning June 23 as part of ongoing construction at the Sartain Gate.
Inbound traffic on Old Bedford Road/Vandenberg Drive will be rerouted to the outbound lane. The shift, which is expected to last approximately two and a half months, will reduce the roadway to one lane in each direction.
“Motorists should plan for changes to their commute and follow all posted signage to ensure safe and efficient travel through the construction area,” said Demetri Papathanasiou, 66th Civil Engineering Division project manager.
In addition, Sartain Gate and a portion of Old Bedford Road/Vandenberg Drive will close to all traffic from 8 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, June 28. In the event of inclement weather, the closure will shift to Sunday, June 29.
“All inbound and outbound traffic will be restricted during this four-hour window,” said Papathanasiou. “We ask drivers to use the Ruiz Gate for base access during the closure.”
For more information, drivers are encouraged to consult posted signage.
Base officials recently completed construction on a new Visitor Control Center outside the Sartain Gate as part of the overall project. Completion of the project, which began in 2022, is expected later this year.
