The 66th Air Base Group is seeking donations for care packages to be sent to Airmen deployed overseas.

Airmen from Hanscom Air Force Base are currently serving at various overseas locations where it may be difficult to find some of their favorite items.

“It’s a long-standing tradition in the Air Force to send out care packages to our deployed personnel,” said Airman 1st Class Kasey Eidson, 66 ABG executive administration assistant. “It’s about taking care of our people.”

Shelf-stable snacks, such as candy, protein bars, and beef jerky, as well as hygiene items, including wet wipes and lip balm, are the most requested items.

“We reached out to them and asked what they needed or wanted,” said Eidson. “Then we put collection boxes out at their unit here on base so that people could more easily contribute.”

Eidson had only been at Hanscom AFB for a few months when he offered to take the lead to help his fellow Airmen.

“This was an initiative that our supervisors came up with and they needed someone to get things rolling and see it through, so I raised my hand,” said Eidson. “It’s something we do when our Airmen are overseas and is my first big project here, so I feel privileged to be given this responsibility.”

Donations will be accepted until July 21 and can be dropped off in the 66th Comptroller Squadron section in building 1305. Those with questions about donating can contact Eidson at 781-225-1284 or kasey.eidson@us.af.mil.
