HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- An upcoming community event, a chance to earn a prestigious foreign military award, and an installation-wide readiness exercise were highlighted in the latest episode of Team Hanscom Today.

Staff Sgt. Anthony Arroyo, 66th Security Forces Squadron defender, served as guest host for this week’s episode.

Arroyo began by encouraging members of the Hanscom AFB community to attend National Night Out, hosted by 66 SFS, on Aug. 29 at 3 p.m. next to the Hanscom Family Housing office.

“It’s a great chance for the entire base community to come together, enjoy food and fun, and meet the dedicated professionals who serve within the Security Forces Squadron,” Arroyo said.

This week’s Team Hanscom Today also featured details about participating in a German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge competition, scheduled for Sept. 4-6. The badge is one of the few foreign awards authorized for wear by U.S. service members.

“This award is all about grit, skill, and elite readiness,” he said. “We’ve got three slots available this year, and it’s open to all ranks.”

Competitors will be evaluated in eight events, with awards presented at the gold, silver, and bronze levels. Assessments are being held every Tuesday in August, beginning at 10 a.m. at the base pool, and concluding with a ruck march at 1 p.m. The top three scores will earn a spot in the competition.

Arroyo closed the episode by highlighting Midnight Ride ’25, a series of readiness exercises taking place throughout August to evaluate the installation’s ability to respond to emerging threats, deploy personnel, and sustain operations in contested environments.

“These exercises validate how we fight and ensure our execution is rock solid, no matter the challenge,” Arroyo said. “You may have experienced temporary gate closures or reduced services, but those are all part of creating realism.”
