HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Base officials will host a cake-cutting ceremony Sept. 18 at 3 p.m. at the Minuteman Commons here to celebrate the Air Force’s 78th birthday.
Col. Jorge Jimenez, installation commander, will preside over the event, which will feature the longest-serving and newest members of the base cutting the ceremonial cake.
“Our Air Force birthday offers an opportunity for Airmen of all ranks, military and civilian, to join together and celebrate our proud service and 78-year heritage,” said Col. Bill Curlin, Hanscom AFB longest-serving Airman. “We look to a bright future as the next generation of Airmen chart the way forward in the name of service to our nation and the defense of our freedom.”
The tradition of having the newest and longest-serving members cut the first slice of cake together symbolizes the connection between the Air Force’s past and future.
The ceremony is open to everyone with base access.
