HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Base officials have planned a series of events for the Commander’s Cup Challenge happening here Sept. 15 -18.

The 66th Force Support Squadron-run event encourages physical fitness, camaraderie and teamwork.

“The Hanscom AFB Commander's Cup Challenge boosts unit cohesion and morale for active duty personnel through competitive events,” wrote Col. Jorge Jimenez, installation commander, in a memorandum to all Hanscom personnel. “While focused on Airmen and Guardians, it encourages participation from civilians and contractors, strengthening the Total Force partnership for mission success.”

A major highlight of this year’s Commanders Cup Challenge is the Spartan DEKA Mile.

“It's the first time ever the Air Force has partnered with Spartan to offer a DEKA Mile, so that's a big deal,” said Paul Shoesmith, Fitness and Sports Center director.

The event combines 10 functional training zones with 160 meters of running before each zone, covering a total distance of one mile.

Each participant is judged on overall time, form and ability to complete each of the 10 physical activities.

Points can be earned toward the Commander’s Cup by participating in or placing in events scheduled throughout the fiscal year.

The Commander’s Cup is awarded to the top point earners in the male, female and team categories.
