HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. — The latest episode of Team Hanscom Today highlights Insider Threat Awareness, a program milestone, and remembering the federal government’s longest-serving employee.

Maurice Russo, personnel security chief for Cyber and Networks, guest-hosted the episode.

He opened the episode by highlighting National Insider Threat Awareness Month, observed each September to emphasize collaboration in protecting the warfighter.

Russo noted that concerning behaviors are often signs of distress and should be reported to security officials so that individuals can be provided with appropriate resources and support.

“We want to turn people around, not turn them in,” he said. “Together, we can create a strong, trusted, and secure environment.”

This episode also featured a milestone for the Battlefield Airborne Communication Node team, which recently celebrated the ninth delivery of the E-11A aircraft.

The specialized platform enhances situational awareness by bridging line-of-sight challenges and enabling real-time information exchange across the battlespace.

“This capability fundamentally changes the way we communicate on the battlefield,” said Lt. Col. Mark Oleksak, BACN materiel leader, during a ceremony on the Hanscom AFB flight line Sept. 10.

The show concluded with a remembrance of Maria Bandouveres, who died at the age of 98 after more than 81 years of federal service.

Bandouveres, the longest-serving civil servant in U.S. history, began her career in 1944 as a clerk-typist and most recently worked as executive assistant to the PEO for Cyber and Networks.

Earlier this year, base officials renamed building 1606 in her honor.

“What an amazing life,” Russo said. “We will miss you, Maria.”
