HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. — The 66th Air Base Group will conduct an annual domestic violence response exercise to assess the installation’s ability to respond to and manage domestic crisis situations.

The exercise will involve multiple base organizations, including the 66th Security Forces Squadron, 66th Medical Squadron and victim support services, and is designed to test the installation’s integrated response capabilities through a simulated domestic incident.

“This exercise allows us to evaluate how well our agencies work together from the initial emergency call through follow-on care and support,” said Major Pierre LaPlume, 66 ABG director of inspections. “Our goal is to ensure every responder understands their role and that the process is seamless for both the subject and the victim.”

The scenario will assess the base’s ability to organize, respond and provide comprehensive care in a controlled environment, enabling leaders to identify strengths and areas for improvement within established response and support pathways.

“Training in a realistic setting helps us synchronize efforts across the installation,” said Master Sgt. Kenneth Souheaver, Inspector General superintendent. “It ensures our teams are prepared to connect individuals and families with the appropriate resources, including the Family Advocacy Program and mental health services.”

According to Thomas Ruud, 66 ABG Inspector General, the exercise reinforces readiness for first responders and support agencies and reflects the ongoing commitment to the safety and well-being of Team Hanscom.

“Exercises like this also build readiness and trust,” said LaPlume. “They ensure help is available when it’s needed most.”
