Upcoming base exercise may cause disruptions

During July 11 to 13, Hanscom AFB will conduct an active shooter exercise scenario to evaluate the installation's readiness and ability to respond to this type of event.

"Holding an exercise such as this allows the installation to prepare for real-world situations," said Lt. Col. Kenneth Mierz, 66th Air Base Group inspector general. "For this upcoming exercise, response to the event itself and base notification procedures will be evaluated."

As part of the scenario there will be base-wide engagement, which will cause delays and disruptions to normal business operations. If members of the workforce participate in a portion of an exercise where they would normally call 911 - either during this event or any exercise - they should only call extension 5-3330.

Personnel should anticipate traffic delays both entering and exiting the base and potential restrictions in movements around the installation. Organizers recommended that non-essential visitors and meetings that require participation by personnel coming from off-base be limited during this exercise period.

Event organizers have emphasized safety to all participants, and if any real-world emergency takes place, the exercise will immediately be stopped.

If personnel have additional concerns regarding the exercise, call 781-225-1712.
