SFS to host annual Police Week activities Published May 4, 2016 By Mark Wyatt 66th Air Base Group Public Affairs HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The 66th Security Forces Squadron will host several events as part of this year's annual National Police Week scheduled May 16 through 20. National Police Week pays special recognition to federal and local law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. To kick off this year's Police Week activities, 66 SFS personnel will host a 24-Hour End of Watch Memorial Run on Monday, May 16 at 9:45 a.m. at the base track in memory of Senior Airmen Kcey Ruiz and Nathan Sartain who died last fall while serving in Afghanistan. The event will begin with opening remarks by Maj. Joseph A. Bincarousky, 66 SFS commander. "During this event, we will remember the service and sacrifice of Kcey and Nathan by carrying the United States flag and squadron guidon around the base track," said Tech. Sgt. Matthew Marquart, 66 SFS Combat Arms Training and Maintenance and co-organizer of this year's Police Week activities. "All are welcome and encouraged to run, walk or just show up and support others." On Tuesday, May 17, members of the squadron will host a free Softball Tournament beginning at 9 a.m. This event will include a home run hitting contest, hamburgers, beverages and prizes for the winners. SFS personnel will also feature the squadron's capabilities to the community at the softball field near Outdoor Recreation on Wednesday, May 18 at 11 a.m. This event will include a weapons display, Military Working Dog demonstration and SFS vehicle display. Additionally, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., personnel will host a car wash in the parking lot beside the softball field. On Thursday, May 19, at 8 a.m., Security Forces is sponsoring a four-person golf tournament. The registration will begin promptly at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The cost is $55 per person, which includes green fees, a cart and a hot lunch. This event will take place at the Patriot Golf Course located at 200 Springs Rd. adjacent to the Veteran's Administration Hospital. Proceeds benefit the National Fallen Officers Memorial. To close out the weeklong activities, a Hanscom Heroes Ceremony May 20 at 10 a.m. will recognize the memories of Ruiz and Sartain with a tree planting ceremony for each at Memorial Park. Since 1991, base officials have paid tribute to deceased members of the community whose services to the Air Force and to Team Hanscom were recognized.
