Firefighters respond to construction fire Published March 28, 2016 By 66th Air Base Group Public Affairs HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Firefighters from the base and from some nearby communities responded to a fire this morning inside a new middle school, which is under construction here. The school is currently unoccupied, except by construction workers. There are no reports of injury. The fire was successfully extinguished early this morning. At this time, fire department personnel are searching the building to make sure there are no additional issues requiring attention. Children at both the middle school, who have been attending classes in modular facilities during the construction, and the base primary school are attending classes today, as normal. No detailed information on the extent of the damage to the new facility is available at this time; nor has a definitive cause been established.
