New Horizons slated for March 1 and 2 Published Jan. 27, 2016 66th Air Base Group Public Affairs HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- This year's New Horizons Symposium will take place March 1 and 2 at the Marriott Hotel in Newton, Massachusetts. Sponsored by the Lexington-Concord Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association, the event allows for interaction between government, industry and academia. This year's featured speakers again include Lt. Gen. John Thompson, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center commander, as the keynote speaker, and LCMC Hanscom's program executive officers, Maj. Gen. Craig Olson, Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence and Networks, and Steven Wert, Battle Management. The PEOs will speak about near-term business opportunities. In addition to the LCMC speakers, other planned participants are from the Air Force Research Laboratory-Rome, the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Systems Center, Mass. National Guard, the MITRE Corp., General Services Administration and MIT Lincoln Laboratory. Addressing a significant current topic, a panel will examine the topic: "UAVs Everywhere - Impacts on Military and Commercial Airspace," as part of the events on March 1. There is no cost to attend for active duty military and government civilians. The registration fee for industry participants who are AFCEA members is $475. For industry non-members, the fee is $525. Registration is on a "first come" basis, so those interested in attending should register as soon as possible. Registration information is on the chapter's website at www.afceaboston.com. Note that each registration only covers one attendee. Lunch for government attendees will be available at a moderate fee. Registration must be made by Feb. 12. Organizers say that this event provides a unique occasion for industry to hear directly from Hanscom's PEOs. They added for Hanscom's civilian and military attendees the symposium offers "a great opportunity" to earn continuous learning points for professional development while engaging with industry and other government participants on current topics of interest. Note that supervisors must grant permission for attendance to earn CLPs. On March 2, following the New Horizons Symposium, a separate LCMC Hanscom small business panel will be held, which will feature Bill Donaldson, Hanscom's director of Small Business, and Scott Kiser, Hanscom's director of Contracting. Olson and Col. Dale VanDusen, deputy for Battle Management, also plan to participate. Information about this event will be forthcoming on the FedBizOpps website.
