Public comments invited on MIT LL facility replacement project

The United States Air Force recently announced the availability of a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the proposed construction and operation of a replacement laboratory facility for Massachusetts Institute of Technology Lincoln Lab, a federally funded research and development center here.

The proposed action would result in the construction of a multi-story building to provide approximately 325,000 square feet of floor space, housing an engineering and prototyping facility.

The draft EA and FONSI address the site-specific impacts and consequences of the proposed action and alternatives on the natural and man-made environment. Any impacts related to the proposed action are anticipated to be minor, and the best management practices provided in the draft EA and FONSI would further reduce any impact.

Copies of the draft EA/FONSI are available for review at the main public libraries in Bedford, Concord, Lexington and Lincoln, Mass., as well as at the Hanscom AFB Environmental Office for those with base access.

Written comments on the draft EA/FONSI will be accepted through Nov. 30. Those interested may mail comments to: 66 ABG/CEIE, 72 Dow Street, Hanscom AFB, MA 01731, or by email to christopher.simpson.34@us.af.mil.
