In remembrance: former 66 ABW Commander Anzalone

Retired Maj. Gen. Chris T. Anzalone passed away Sept. 27, 2015, after a short illness.

Anzalone served as commander of the 66th Air Base Wing at Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts, from August 1998 until May 2000.

During his tenure as commander here, the 66 ABW was responsible for providing base, regional and readiness support to the Electronic Systems Center, Air Force Research Laboratory and Massachusetts Institute of Technology Lincoln Laboratory.

Anzalone was born in 1955. He was commissioned into the U.S. Air Force in 1977 after graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree from Florida Technological University in Orlando, Florida. The general went on to lead an illustrious military career marked by various operational, program management and command positions. He retired in 2009.

His commands include a flying squadron, mission support group and the air base wing.

The general conducted joint war planning for contingency operations supporting the Global War on Terrorism while serving on the Joint Staff. During his career, the general was the joint planner for the Directorate for Operational Plans and Interoperability, assistant deputy director of Political-Military Affairs for the Western Hemisphere and the executive officer to the director, Strategic Plans and Policy. Anzalone also served as vice commander of the Air Armament Center and Warner Robins Air Logistics Center, Robins Air Force Base, Georgia.

His military decorations and awards included the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal and Air Force Commendation Medal.
