Public comments on Hanscom solar project invited Published Sept. 23, 2015 By 66th Air Base Group Civil Engineering Division HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The United States Air Force recently announced the availability of a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the proposed Solar Photovoltaic system installation here. The draft EA has been prepared to ensure environmental information is available to public officials and citizens during the decision-making process. The EA was prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 and 32 CFR 989, the Air Force Environmental Impact Analysis Process. The purpose of the project is to provide Hanscom AFB with a reliable source of energy to meet the operational needs of the base. Utilizing renewable energy sources will further the goals of the Air Force's 2013 Strategic Energy Plan and support other federal statutes and regulations set forth to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reliance on fossil fuels. Copies of the draft EA/FONSI are available for review at the main public libraries in Bedford, Concord, Lexington and Lincoln, Mass., as well as at the Hanscom AFB Environmental Office for those with base access. Written comments on the draft EA/FONSI will be accepted through Oct. 31. Those interested may mail comments to: 66 ABG/CEIE, 120 Grenier Street, Hanscom AFB, MA 01731, or by email to christopher.simpson.34@us.af.mil.
