Leadership symposium set for October Published Sept. 9, 2015 HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The dates have been set for the next Hanscom Leadership Symposium. The symposium, which has received a lot of positive feedback over the past three years, will take place Oct. 6 through 9 at the Hanscom Conference Center. According to organizers, this session will feature Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Executive Director Patsy Reeves speaking about "Leadership Principles," along with presentations from Hanscom senior leaders. "Mr. [Kevin] Stamey, former Engineering and Technical Management associate director, who brought the course to Hanscom, stated this was one of the best leadership courses he had ever participated in," said Scott Kiser, director of Contracting for Hanscom. "Over the past 12 months we've continued this outstanding course as a special opportunity for the Hanscom community." The symposium is structured around the book, 'The Leadership Challenge,' by James Kouzes and Barry Posner. Each participant will receive a copy of the book prior to the course. During the symposium, attendees have the chance to explore five principles from 'The Leadership Challenge': Model the Way, Encourage the Heart, Challenge the Process, Enable Others to Act and Inspire a Shared Vision. Wright-Patterson leadership added a sixth principle, Have Fun, which Hanscom organizers have included as well. "The leadership symposium has quickly become one of the most popular courses here at Hanscom," said Kiser. "The Hanscom workforce is obviously excited to hear from our senior leadership, and senior leaders are also genuinely excited to be a part of the symposium." The course is open to Hanscom civilians in grades 11 to 13, military officers in grades 02 to 04 and enlisted from E4 to E7. Interested parties should work through their assigned organizations to sign up. "In order to get the most out of this course, we highly encourage participation and interaction," said Kiser. "You'll only get out what you put in." The classes run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
