The Hanscom Education and Training Center is now registering base students for a variety of degree programs offered here through Boston University. Registration at Park University for its second session of the fall semester begins Sept. 1.

The two schools are the only academic institutions that have memorandum of agreements at Hanscom Air Force Base.

Boston University, the fourth largest independent university in the United States, has offered graduate degree programs at Hanscom AFB since 2004.

The school's military programs offer classes on base that are available to active duty and their dependents, as well as Department of Defense employees and contractors who have earned a bachelor's degree from a regionally- accredited college or university. The programs offered are under the auspices of Metropolitan College; one of the 17 degree-granting bodies within Boston University.

The university's Master of Science in Leadership degree program takes place at the Hanscom Education and Training Center and uses an alternate weekend format. Classes are scheduled to run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The program consists of 10 courses and can be completed in 20 months.

A subset of the degree program is the Graduate Certificate in Project Management, a four-course certificate that addresses risk, costs, communications, scheduling and leadership requirements, as well as the overall management of a program. All four courses can be taken independently for the certificate, or applied to the MS Leadership degree program, or the MS Project Management degree program (primarily Boston or online-based).

Boston University also offers a 10-course MS Computer Science degree program, with courses running on weeknights. A 10-course MS Computer Information Systems degree program is also offered, with those courses running on weekends with the leadership courses.

Registration for the degree and certificate programs for the fall 2015 semester is now underway.

Park University's main campus is in Missouri, near Kansas City, with roughly 40 campus centers throughout the country, primarily at military bases. Park was established in 1875 and has a long history of serving military members. The school is celebrating its 140th anniversary this year.

The Park University center, located at Hanscom AFB, offers general education classes for Community College of the Air Force degree completion and the following Bachelor degree programs: Management; Management/Human Resources; Management/Computer Information Systems; and Criminal Justice Administration.

Park offers eight-week classes and has five terms per year. The term dates and lengths are the same whether students take classes on base or online. Generally, there are three or four classes offered on base each term.

Park University offers other degree programs online from which students can choose, but will be considered Distance Learning students, rather than Hanscom students. Active duty students pay the same tuition whether they take classes through a campus center or as a Distance Learning student. Military dependents also receive the active duty military rate.

Veterans and civilians pay a different tuition rate if they are not affiliated with a campus center.
