The Secretary of the Air Force, Deborah Lee James, is visiting Hanscom today to gain more knowledge about the base's mission and people as part of a multi-day visit to the area.

She will receive briefings covering the Life Cycle Management Center, Hanscom program executive officer work, installation activity and the Mass. National Guard. She also plans to visit MIT Lincoln Laboratory.

James will also have a chance to meet with Mass. Gov. Charlie Baker and members of the Massachusetts congressional delegation to discuss the state's collaboration efforts and the Military Asset and Security Strategy Task Force.

In addition, the secretary will view technology demonstrations. Topics range from the Battlefield Airborne Communications Node and Joint Aerial Layer Network to Integrated Base Defense Security Systems, Base Information Transport Infrastructure, Joint Information Environment, Ground Based Sense and Avoid, along with the Hanscom Collaboration and Innovation Center, also known as the HCIC (pronounced H-kick).

A luncheon meeting will give James the chance to interact with Airmen and hear their concerns. And for the Hanscom workforce to hear her thoughts, an all-call will take place today at the Aero Club Hangar at 1:45.

"I look forward to this chance to see first-hand the important work being done at Hanscom that connects and supports our warfighters," said James. "In addition, I'm happy to have the opportunity to meet with the governor and local leaders to learn about all the collaboration efforts between the state and the Air Force."

This evening, James plans to speak at a Small Business Administration-hosted 'Veteran Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship' event in Boston.

Yesterday James had an opportunity to visit the MITRE Corp. to learn about their work supporting the Air Force, such as the Joint STARS Battle Management Command and Control suite.

She also spoke at a Mass. Business Roundtable event and participated in an interview with Boston National Public Radio affiliate WBUR.
