Fraud working group training scheduled Published Aug. 5, 2015 HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The Defense Contract Management Agency Eastern Region will host a Boston Area Fraud Working Group training session Aug. 13 at 1 p.m. at the Barnes Building in Boston. The two-hour session will feature presentations by Derek Santos, Air Force General Counsel director of fraud remedies, and Sheri Lewis, an Air Force General Counsel suspension and debarment attorney. Counsel from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Maryland is also scheduled to make a presentation. Special Agent Dave Schwartz, Air Force Office of Special Investigations, Det. 6 at Joint Base Andrews, Md., will provide a recent False Claims Act case study. A panel discussion on Essentials in Government Contracting featuring Hanscom Air Force Base Contracting Officers and Price Analysts is also scheduled. "Hanscom Air Force Base acquisition professionals will have a rare opportunity to gain insight from a myriad of topics and speakers during the next Boston Area Fraud Working Group, which will include a question and answer session, so all should take advantage by attending," said Jennifer Carrion, Office of the Staff Judge Advocate acquisition fraud and program counsel. The BAFWG meets quarterly and is comprised of two sessions. One is utilized to train the acquisition community on fraud recognition, reporting, hot topics and case studies. The other is the BAFWG core team and consists of Boston area law enforcement and discusses current cases and ways ahead. Any program office that faces a fraud issue may call on the BAFWG to convene upon request to advise the program on investigation status and closeout in a way that will minimize impact to the procurement. All government employee acquisition professionals, regardless of experience level, are invited to attend and are encouraged to sign up through ACQ Now at https://www.atrrs.army.mil/channels/acqnowcl/. Pre-registration is mandatory for this event in order to gain access to the facility.
