Base taxi service saves time, resources Published April 9, 2015 By Jeffery Finley 66th Logistic Readiness Squadron HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- When parking is limited or dodging traffic and weather makes travel on base difficult, the 66th Logistic Readiness Squadron's base taxi service is standing by to ensure Hanscom personnel arrive at their destination. Managed by the vehicle operations flight, the taxi service dispatches customers engaging in official travel to their desired location free of charge. The program also provides free shuttle service to Logan International Airport for Hanscom personnel on official travel orders. Users must request transportation 24 hours prior to travel to allow time to schedule a driver and ensure vehicle availability. This no cost service is available for Hanscom travelers departing from and arriving at Logan International Airport, as long as the departure or arrival takes place during normal business hours from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. In addition to their travel services, LRS also offers U-Drive-It vehicles to organizations and temporarily assigned personnel on official orders. As defined by Air Force Instruction 24-301, "the UDI vehicle is available to organizations and activities of the installation for temporary support of official use functions and operated by personnel assigned to the using agency in support of home-station mission, contingencies, TDY support and combat service support operations." Use of UDI vehicles is generally limited to a 72-hour period and there are some limitations associated with the program. However, LRS will consider each request on a case-by-case basis. To submit a request for travel or UDI support or for additional information, please contact LRS at 781-225-5830 or by email at 66.lrs.lgrddo.vehicle.Request@us.af.mil.
