AF officials respond to off base sewage leak Published Sept. 23, 2014 HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The Air Force is responding to a sewage leak adjacent to Hartwell Avenue in Lexington. The source of the sewage appears to be an Air Force-owned pressurized pipe, referred to as a force main, which has now been deactivated. Contractors hired by the Air Force will be hauling sewage from Hanscom Air Force Base while officials investigate the leak and while any required repairs to the force main are made. The Air Force is also postured to perform necessary cleanup and disinfection. Minor traffic disturbances in the vicinity of the leak could occur throughout the afternoon/evening commute.
