The base will host this year's Holocaust Days of Remembrance observance April 28 through May 2.

Israel "Izzy" Arbeiter, a Holocaust survivor, will share his life story with the community on April 28 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Concord Room of the Hanscom Conference Center.

Committee members note that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to hear from someone who has dedicated his life to educating people, young and old, through his personal story of survival through the Holocaust. Arbeiter lost several family members, including his parents, in the Holocaust.

Organizers have scheduled a 5K history walk or run at the Fitness and Sports Center April 30 beginning at 3:30 p.m. The community is invited to participate in the event that will include fact boards of Holocaust information posted along the 5K path for participants to learn more about the Holocaust.

The community is also invited to attend a movie lunch and learn May 1 at 11 a.m. at the Minuteman Commons. The movie, "The Path to Nazi Genocide," is a film that examines the Nazis' rise and consolidation of power in Germany.

Throughout the week, the Holocaust committee will also be sponsoring a paper clip campaign that is both historically linked to the Holocaust and geared today toward an anti-bullying campaign.

A paper clip became a passive, defiant stand against the atrocities in Nazi Germany. Norwegians would wear a paper clip on their lapel as a symbol of defiance and as a silent protest against the biggest bully of all--Hitler. During the week of the Holocaust remembrance, a challenge is being issued. Children are encouraged to wear a paper clip on their shirt as a silent protest against all intolerance, past and present.
