Clinic modernization project begins Published Feb. 13, 2014 By 66th Medical Squadron HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Construction began earlier this month on the 66th Medical Squadron to modernize the facility and improve patient flow, squadron officials announced. Construction will take place in several clinical departments and is expected to continue for 18 months. "Many of the administrative and outpatient clinical departments will be modernized to enhance the standards of modern healthcare," said Capt. Michael Oetjens, 66th Medical Logistics and Readiness Flight commander and lead for the project. "Departments such as Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Education and Training, Radiology, Pharmacy are among the many offices that will be renovated." Case Management, Radiology, Immunization and the Laboratory are the first departments that will be impacted. Case Management will move into a temporary phasing facility in the adjacent parking lot on the east side of the clinic, Building 1900. Radiology and Immunization and Laboratory departments will move into temporary swing space within the clinic. "During these renovations, the check-in and registration will remain in the lobby," said Oetjens. "However, that function will move to the third-party collections counter." With a focus on health and wellness, the architects, interior designers and general contractor have created a professional design that highlights an inviting and open atmosphere. "This project is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or commonly referred to as LEED, Silver certified construction project," Oetjens said. "The benefits include minimizing the impact on ecosystem and water resources, promoting efficient water use inside and out, promoting better building energy performance, use of sustainable building materials and reducing construction waste, promoting better indoor air quality, and daylight views." Signs throughout the facility will be posted to assist patients during construction. The clinic telephone number will remain 781-225-6789.
