Each September, a special day is chosen to celebrate kids. This year, the Boys and Girls Club Day for Kids is Sept. 18 at Castle Park from 4 to 6 p.m.

According to the website, www.dayforkids.org, the Boys and Girls Club Day for Kids is a time to celebrate and honor America's children by spending meaningful time with them.

"Active play is a fundamental part of building a child's cognitive, physical, social and emotional well-being," said Ann-Marie Ely, Youth Sports and Fitness director.

Events include face painting and art activities as well as various other free activities for families to enjoy. Families also are invited to enjoy free hot dogs and hamburgers, too.

The BGCA website charges each parent to make a commitment to connect with the young person in their life and spend meaningful time together engaging in active play. It also mentions that when families have fun playing together, memories will be created that will last a lifetime.
